Dundee’s Snappy Shopper secures multi-million-pound funding for UK growth

Dundee-founded technology company Snappy Shopper has secured a multi-million-pound funding facility from Virgin Money to support its next phase of expansion across the UK.

Founded in 2017, the business began with a trial at a convenience store in Lochee. Today, its platform connects customers with more than 1,800 businesses nationwide, enabling deliveries of groceries and everyday essentials within an hour. More than £150 million of grocery orders were placed through its app in 2025.

The new lending facility will provide additional financial flexibility to support Snappy Group’s growth plans, building on previous equity investment. The group brings together Snappy Shopper, Snappy Technologies and Snappy Media.

Chief financial officer Barry McGonagle said demand for the group’s products and services was increasing, with platform transactions reaching record levels. The funding will help the company respond to that demand and pursue further opportunities.

Retailers using the platform include stores operating under the Spar, Co-op, Nisa and Premier brands.

Founded by chief executive Mike Callachan and co-founder Scott Campbell, Snappy Shopper's CTO is Alan Reid. The company now directly employs more than 120 people, including staff at its City Quay headquarters. Dundee continues to serve as a testing ground for new products and innovations as the company expands its national reach.

Its journey from a local retail trial to a UK-wide platform demonstrates how digital businesses can develop and scale from Dundee.
